CHILE: DRILLING BEGINS- ESCAPE ROUTE FOR 33 TRAPPED MINERS

Drilling operations have begun to dig a 700m escape route for the 33 Chilean miners trapped underground. The Australian-built drilling rig, Strata 950, began drilling alongside the San Jose mine, which is located in northern Chile. Drilling began 1km away from the mine’s main entrance. At the current rate of 20m per day, it will take three to four months to reach the miners.
