Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has been appointed Vice President of the powerful Central Military Commission. The news comes from the Xinhua Agency. The move is seen by pundits as bringing Xi a step closer to taking over from President Hu Jintao, who is the current head of the Commission and who is expected to step down as Secretary of the Communist Party in 2012 and as President in 2013.
