The three Fiat Melfi workers sacked by the company have come down from their refuge on the city walls. Antonio Lamorte, Giovanni Barozzino and Marco Pignatelli climbed up the day before yesterday.

They spent about 48 hours living, sleeping, and eating in the open air, braving the 37 degree afternoon heat, protected just by an umbrella and an awning made from a sheet they happened to find. A few minutes ago, one of the three, Marco Pignatelli, from Potenza, collapsed due to a drop in blood pressure. At first he was helped by his friends and demonstrators and then the fire brigade and ambulance arrived.
