GAS: RUSSIA REDUCES ITS SUPPLIES TO BELARUS

Russia has reduced its gas supplies to Belarus because of their defaulting on payments. Negotiations between Russia and Belarus on the repayment of the debt of 200 million Dollars worth of energy supplies that Minsk has with Moscow came to a standstill this morning. The news was reported by Gazprom Chief Executive Alexej Miller to Russian President Dimitry Medvedev.

Pursuant to this, gas supplies to Belarus will begin to drop “regularly and proportionally to the amount due”. According to what Miller underscored, the Minsk delegation “acknowledges the debt” but intends to repay it “by supplying other merchandise”.

The proposal was rejected by the Russian energy company. The procedures limiting the distribution of the ‘blue gold’ in Minsk were begun this morning at 10 a.m. Moscow time.
