Gdf Suez and International Power are near a deal that would have the French group take control of the UK company. It was reported by the ‘Sunday Times’. The board of directors of International Power is expected to approve the deal during today’s meeting. Under the agreement, a special dividend of 1.6 billion euro would be paid to the British company’s shareholders. The agreement could be announced tomorrow when the two companies are scheduled to post their first-half reports. Neither party has so far commented on the deal.
