POPE GRANTS PLENARY INDULGENCE TO ALL CUBAN PENITENTS

The Pope has given plenary indulgence to all repentant believers in Cuba in honor of the Virgin of the Cobre. The news was announced by the Bishops of Cuba in a message broadcast today by the Vatican Radio. The messages states that plenary indulgence will be given to, “all thouse who devoutly attend some of the ceremonies planned or those who attend spiritual exercises of pity in front of the statue of the pilgrim Virgin.” The bishops explained that there is a wish to celebrate “the presence” of the Holy Virgin throughout the country’s tormented history. This presence has, for four centuries, nourished an, “intense devotion that cannot be separated from the country’s history.” .
