TIRRENIA: UILT CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT MEETING OR WILL STRIKE

According to UILT union, the only way to avoid the Tirrenia ferry strike on Aug 30-31 is through the government. The Italian Transport union claims it is best, from the outset, to exclude the possibility of using tools such as putting a legal end to the strike or deferring it since workers would not accept such measures due to the serious nature of the situation. Union leader Giuseppe Caronia stated as much in a letter addressed to the Italian President, the Prime Minister, the Transport Minister, the Chamber of Deputees and Senate Presidents, the Guarantees Committee, the Italian Episcopal Conference and to all Parliamentary groups.
