TOKYO, 2 YEARS TO WHALE DEFENDER, PAROLE GRANTED

An activist against whale hunting has received a suspended sentence in Tokyo to two years. Peter Bethune, age 45, is a member of the Sea Shepherds, and environmentalist group that tries to impede the Japanese whalers in the Antarctic. He has been sentenced for throwing in February a bottle of butyric acid (rancid butter), hitting and injuring the face of a Japanese sailor.
