VELAZQUEZ PAINTING FOUND IN YALE CUPBOARD

A previously unknown painting by Velazquez has been discovered in a cupboard at Yale University’s Art Gallery. The painting entitled “The education of the Virgin Mary” is in appalling condition and portrays Saint Anne teaching the Madonna to read. The painting was discovered by John Marciari, curator of the European art section at the San Diego Museum in California. Authentication has been requested from the Madrid Prado and if confirmed the painting is expected to be worth about 11 million euros
