Franklin Brito, a Venezuelan farmer who staged a hunger strike against President Chavez, died, his family said. Brito had become a symbol of the fight to uphold freedom against the arrogance of power. He staged a series of hunger strikes as early as 2005, to oppose the violation of his property rights when the government seized his land in the State of Bolivar. Brito had briefly suspended his strike at the end of 2009 only to resume it shortly after.
