WRITER JOSE’ SARAMAGO HAS DIED

Madrid – Portuguese writer Jose’ Saramago has died aged 87. The novelist, who died in his home in Lanzarote at past 1pm, had been suffering from chronic leukaemia. His wife, Pilar del Rio, was at his death-bed. Saramago had spent a peaceful morning and had had breakfast. Then, he started feeling unwell. He won the Noble Prize for Literature in 1998.
