SPD and Steinmeier making up ground on Merkel's CDU/CSU

n their final surveys before the vote, the two largest pollers both suggest that the SPD (Social Democrats) are catching up with big rivals the CDU/CSU (Christian Democrats).

The polls by TV stations ARD and ZDF reveal the SPD closing of the gap on the CDU/CSU.

At the moment, the two rival factions make up a ‘Grand Coalition’ which is governing Germany.

But the CDU/CSU, which provides current Chancellor Angela Merkel, want to form a coalition with preferred partner the FDP.
